Froggy is a thoughtful little guy who likes to know exactly what is going on before he decides how he feels about it. When he entered the temperament testing area, his first priority was checking out the environment rather than immediately connecting with Austin.

He was also our most vocal puppy and pretty much barked his opinion about everything! For Froggy, that vocalization seemed to be a mixture of stress and excitement as he tried to process a completely new experience. He actually moved through the entire test fairly quickly, but you could tell his brain was working overtime while he did it. He missed the security of his siblings and wasn't naturally looking to Austin for direction at first. What I loved was that by the end of the test, that started to change. Once he had time to settle in and build a little trust, he finished wanting to be right where Austin was.

Froggy isn't the puppy I would choose for someone looking for the boldest, most instantly adaptable puppy in the litter, but I think there is a lot to love about this little guy. He needs a family who will see confidence building as part of raising him and who won't mistake hesitation for an inability to do something. We are already planning lots of individual outings and one-on-one time between now and when he meets his family so he can practice navigating the world without relying on his littermates. His future family should continue that work with puppy classes, short outings, new environments, and plenty of opportunities to figure things out without immediately rescuing him when he is unsure.

I can picture Froggy thriving with someone who enjoys watching a puppy blossom over time. He may take longer to decide that you're his person, but seeing him end his test choosing to be close to Austin makes me think there is a very connected dog underneath that cautious little puppy who just needs some help finding his confidence.
