Darla is the girl who finishes one thing and immediately looks at you like, “Okay, what’s next?” She ran through the different parts of her temperament test with confidence and enthusiasm and was more than willing to work with Austin along the way.

She has high motivation, high human focus, and a naturally confident personality, which makes her feel like a puppy who is going to be incredibly fun to train. She wants to participate in life rather than sit back and watch it happen. She also isn't particularly tenderhearted, which was pretty obvious during Austin’s “tantrum.” While some puppies worried about why he was upset, Darla basically decided that a person lying on the floor made an excellent jungle gym. That little moment summed her up pretty well. She loves her people, but she isn't going to take every emotion personally.

Darla would be so much fun for an active family that wants a dog they can really do things with. I can picture her starting the morning with a walk, happily working through a training session, riding along for errands or weekend adventures, playing in the yard, and then coming inside to be part of whatever everyone is doing next. Because she is confident, medium energy, and fairly forward in how she approaches life, I would probably choose one of her calmer siblings for a family with very young children. I think Darla will shine with older kids or adults who will enjoy her enthusiasm and give her clear boundaries from the beginning.

Training will be especially important for this girl because confident, smart puppies quickly figure out what works for them! Give her structure, lots of socialization, and productive ways to use that busy brain, and I think Darla is going to grow into one incredibly fun dog.
